Well, another month has passed, and wow was September an awesome month for esports!

We found out about a larger Overwatch League, saw titans fall in League of Legends, and watched Fortnite manage its esport footing with the announcement of their Fall Skirmish. Never fear though, October is going to be just as great--and you bet there is a lot to look forward to in the coming month.

You know the best thing about it though? That I, Justin Robey, am here to tell you what’s happening and where it’s happening, so you can catch the “what’s what” in esports this month.

So, let’s find out what’s going on in this scariest of month’s October. (Get it? Because it’s Halloween… never mind).

The Road to Worlds Is Heating Up!

October 1 marks the beginnings of the Group Stages as we start the almost month-long process of finding out who will duke it out at the League of Legends’ World Championships November 3rd in the Incheon Munhak Stadium in South Korea.

Now there are a lot of those games to watch, but I am here to help you choose the best games. If you are a North American fan, you’ve got your first NALCS (North American League Championship Series) team, Cloud 9, making their debut at 1:00 AM PDT on October 1st. For the top-seeded North American Team, you are going to want to check out Team Liquid as they begin their fight for the championship starting on October 10 beginning at 1:00 AM PDT. Finally, if you want to see the two top-favored teams poised to take it all, that would be RNG and Gen.G!

Lucky for everyone these two behemoths are playing in the same group right off the bat! So, if you want to see some of the best League of Legends play, give them a watch when they battle it out starting at 6:00 AM PDT on October 11.

The Fortnite Fall Skirmish Heats Up with the Release of Season 6

Though the first week of the Fortnite Fall Skirmish has already happened, we get a massive up in the Battle Royal craziness as Epic Games has recently released Season 6 to the public. That means all the new Season 6 shenanigans are going to be included in Fortnite’s six-week $10,000,000 skirmish that’s happening now.fortnite-fall-skirmish

Now we’ve pulled together the relevant parts of what you need to know about Season 6 – from gameplay improvement to other relevant esports pieces – that should give you a preview of what to expect in the drive-up to the finale at TwitchCon on October 26 through 28. Now the big cosmetic addition in Season 6 is the inclusion of pets, which sit in your backpack. Though cute, they won’t do anything but make your favorite pro look good while pulling off his or her best moves.

However, when it comes to gameplay we do have a couple of new additions. The first is called Shadow Stones and these are consumable items that can be found scattered around the map. These items let you turn invisible and phase through walls. This should make for some awesome stream moments as players will be surprising other unsuspecting victims by appearing out of nowhere and taking them out!

The second update has been to the map itself, where the most obvious change is the floating island above Loot Lake which appears to have been flung into the air due to the effects of the purple cube. There also appear to be corrupted areas popping up all over the place, which is more than likely linked to upcoming Halloween content.

We can assume that Fortnite will be taking advantages of these new maps and features during their weekly, ever rotating, skirmish events. That means new things for players and spectators each week as the event moves towards its exciting conclusion at the end of this month.

Black Ops 4 Blackout Doritos Bowl

If Fortnite isn’t your thing, then never fear: It’s Doritos and Activision’s latest entry into the Call of Duty Franchise to the rescue. Also at TwitchCon in October, Call of Duty Black Ops 4 and Doritos have come together to showcase Black Ops 4’s new Blackout Battle Royale mode.

The initial response from the community and streamers all over the world has been incredibly positive for this latest entry into the Battle Royal genre, and everyone has been excited to see what a AAA developer like Treyarch can do with the genre. Now take all that awesome game play and add powerhouse gamer Ninja, along with the other team captains, Shroud, CourageJD, and DrLupo, and you are going to get an event worth tuning into. No prize money for this one but I am sure there will be a massive amount of Doritos (yummmm) and an epic Doritos Bowl trophy.

You will get to catch all the action live from TwitchCon starting Saturday October 27 at https://www.twitch.tv/doritos
